Duration: 3 Year HLA with opportunities for 5 years and progression

Reports to: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager

The Quantity Surveying Placement Student will support the commercial team in managing the costs and financial aspects of engineering projects. The role provides practical experience in cost control, procurement, valuations, and contract administration, ensuring projects are delivered within budget and in line with contractual requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts for engineering projects.

· Support the measurement and valuation of works, including interim valuations and final accounts.

· Help prepare and analyse tender documents and subcontract packages.

· Assist with procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.

· Support the administration of contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT or similar).

· Help manage and track project costs and variations (change orders).

· Assist in preparing monthly cost reports and financial updates.

· Support the management of subcontractor accounts, including payments and variations.

· Work with project teams to ensure commercial awareness and cost control on site.

· Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation.

Skills and Knowledge

· Basic understanding of quantity surveying and commercial principles.

· Strong numerical and analytical skills.

· Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general IT systems.

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

· Good communication and teamwork skills.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
