Assistant Accountant

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for ensuring the timely preparation of monthly management accounts and annual FS for the ASEE group companies and branches in conjunction with the Management accountant and to provide support and guidance to Regional Assistant Accountants in the management of the overseas payrolls and in the preparation of the management accounts for their respective branch operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of management accounts for ASEE Ltd – UK Branch and ASEE Ireland Ltd.

  • Finalise, the preparation of the management accounts for overseas branches of ASEE Ltd.

  • Prepare Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss reconciliations for all ASEE entities in conjunction with the Regional Assistant Accountants.

  • Assist with the preparation of payroll for EU countries and leave provide cover for regional assistant accountants.

  • Ensure standard payroll costs are up to date and project labour costs are completed on a timely basis.

  • Assistance with credit card reconciliation and posting of these to GL and project costing.

  • Reconciliation of inter-company balances

  • Review of bank reconciliations.

  • Preparation of UK & Ireland VAT submissions in conjunction with the Tax Manager.

  • CIS/RCT subcontractor returns and ensuring compliance in conjunction with the Tax Manager.

  • Preparation of audit files and dealing with queries from auditors in conjunction with the Management account and Group finance Manager.

  • Assist preparation of annual budget and business plans.

  • Assist with the preparation of CT returns for group businesses in conjunction with the Tax Manager

  • Preparation of Grant applications and claims.

  • Developing and improving the company’s financial systems and processes.

  • Mentoring and developing other finance staff.

  • Ensuring that all statutory surveys are submitted in a timely manner.

  • Any other task/project that may be requested by the directors or line manager.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Part-qualified accountant OR qualified by experience with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work in a busy finance environment.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles. 

  • Experience in preparing management accounts, financial reporting, and supporting audits.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Effective communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Desirable:
  • Strong communication skills verbal and written

  • Experience in the construction industry preferable

  • Experience with Microsoft office products and google sheets 

  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work on competing demands 

  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team
